Study Abroad in South Korea: Banking Guide

Each university in South Korea has a bank that they partner with, and this will most likely be the bank that you will make an account with.

University-Bank Partnerships:

  • Yonsei University — Woori Bank (우리은행)
  • Ewha Woman's University — Shinhan Bank (신한은행)
  • Korea University — Hana Bank (하나은행)
  • Seoul National University — Nonghyup Bank (농협은행)
  • Hanyang University — Shinhan Bank (신한은행)
  • Kookmin University — Woori Bank (우리은행)
  • Chonnam National University — Kwangju Bank (광주은행)

How to get a bank account at Yonsei University:

  • Make one when you pick up your student ID from Woori Bank on-campus (Note: you will need to come back to the bank to connect your ARC or else your bank account will be limited)
  • Wait until you have your ARC and then open an account on-campus

Things you need:

  • Student ID (your student ID doubles as a bank card and transit card)
  • ARC (only needed for second option as you won't have your ARC when you pick up your student ID)
  • Passport
  • Address in Korea
  • Korean phone number
  • SSN card
